He was on travel for many years before that. But more importantly, he wrote great books on the workings of restaurants and the restaurant lifestyle. As a renaissance man, I found them excellent reads.

And he was a badass dood

Depression is nasty. I liked his shows. No pretentious fluff.

I remember flipping through channels and saw this guy wearing a dead boys t-shirt and going “whose this mother fucker?!” I continued watching and after a few snarky comments and interesting perspectives, I thought “Alright...this guys cool.” I’ve read his books, I’ve seen almost every show he’s done. He’s an inspiration to every cook and chef I know. And although I was never in the food industry, he has been a big inspiration to me too...just in overall life

It seems that some can have very little in life but be happy, while others can have nearly everything that life may offer and still be miserable.

Some suicides are contemplated for years before the final act . . . and others result from impulse and could have been prevented if someone was nearby to intervene.

He's had years of substance abuse issues, so yes.

Dang this really sucks. One of interesting shows had him travelling to the Middle East and came under a rocket attack. He spent the show moving around with a guard and dining at little shitholes instead of the 5star place he had planned. I never read about any personal issues.

He has/had a quite large fan base in Finland too.
