Car talk What did you do today?
Was a great show. What did you do with your car, truck or scooter today?
I have this little Spitfire project going on with the goal of cleaning it up and making it more fun or dependable :)
So far I've only been buying replacement parts when a sale comes along so I can enjoy driving it before stripping it all apart for paint and further restoration. It's a slow, long term project and since some items are not original to the car and I have no past history of the vehicle I've decided to keep as much of the original parts as possible but update or improve parts that have already been swapped out by the previous owners.
Case in point is the engine. The car is a 1972 but the previous owner swapped out the engine for an earlier model of the same size. Back then as more pollution controls were added the engines got bigger but actually had less power and lower torque. This engine is actually a much sought after vintage by those in the racing world even though it's a joke by any of todays standards. Twin SU carbs were added to match the European cars over the single US Stromberg or, ugh, downdraft Weber. Anyhow I'm not opposed to upgrading any engine parts since it's not original.
I've had my eye on a set of 4-2-1 headers to replace the original and more restrictive cast iron one. Sale price plus free shipping helped with the decision. In doing lots of research I also decided to test fit the headers and tweak them as necessary for proper fit then get them ceramic coated to contain the heat since they're mere inches from the two carbs.
New parts made in axis Germany
Original exhaust

I washed and waxed my indian last night
The new exhaust looks good but I'm thinking that the plastic wrap must be very heat resistant to be used on steel headers. ;-)
Nice air cleaners on the SUs.
My '71 FIATs and '75 Lancia Beta Couple had air pumps and ant-pollution crap on them as well. I was glad to see the technology move past that 1970s point.
She's smooth

I don't fuck around. White walls and a better seat will set it off. Soon (TM)

Those man purses really give it a nice contrast.

Great American tradition
American cowboys using saddlebags on the trail would spit tobacco somewhere near you and then run your modern metrosexual ass over with their 10,000 cow stampede.
Don't pull that shit in cowtowns when they are drunk and ornery.

Baby boomers have superior knowledge of mechanics and a baby boomer would never lose patience with an inanimate nut or bolt. Judicious application of heat or cold, a little Liquid Wrench . . . the right tool for the job ( a superior and experienced brain, for example) and voila! Job done.
You need to pay more attention to your elders. ;-)

Baby boomers continually elected officials who benefited from turning education into for-profit businesses by cutting funding and dwindling money away from trade based courses like automotive classes and wood shop.
Only the rich and fancy schools even offer those types of courses around here before college. And I live in one of the most conservative areas in the state.
But at least we aren’t completely buttfuck retard conservative like the types who’d wear those shoes though
