Well our observable universe is almost 14 billion light years in any direction, theories about the true size go up to about 50 to 150 billion of those due to inflation. Would be a shame to waste all that space on a single intelligent species.

I have no trouble believing there might be / have been a great many other intelligent species. I think it's a much bigger leap to think it likely that any of them would be close enough (in space and, crucially, time) to notice us and respond with visits. Our earliest radio signals are only 130 light years away by now.
I don't know any better than any of us though so...

Yeah this goH darn space is fucking big, despite that the chance of an real encounter are dismal. If not for that dark energy and the space expanding obliterating any posibility with time. But let's see if that Webb telescope out there can make up our mind if we'll head towards an big crunch or chill/rip.
